The State of Connecticut is seeking an Accounting Careers Trainee for the Department of Administrative Services (DAS). This role involves on-the-job training to prepare for advancement into a professional Accountant position, with responsibilities including application review, payments, and project budgeting within the school construction grants process. Responsibilities - Receives training in introductory accounting or auditing work for development of skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement into a professional agency accounting or auditing position - Performs a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during the course of the training period - Examines financial records of governmental or private businesses and accounting methods and procedures to ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, guidelines or accepted accounting principles - May receive training in such areas as maintaining financial records and accounts, establishing financial statements and schedules, and preparing budget estimates - Performs related duties as required Skills - Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in accounting and/or qualifying experience - Bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours in accounting - Master's degree in a related field with at least 15 semester hours in accounting - Master's degree in a related field with at least 30 semester hours in accounting - Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program - Experience reviewing financial documents for compliance with statues, regulations, or grant requirements - Experience in governmental accounting, public sector finance, or grant administration - Experience using Microsoft Excel for financial analysis, including pivot tables, formulas, and data validation - Experience interpreting or applying statues, regulations, or formal policy guidance - Experience communicating financial or compliance requirements to management Benefits - Professional growth and development opportunities - A healthy work/life balance to all employees Company Overview - The State of Connecticut – Executive Branch employs thousands of dedicated professionals, committed to providing a safe and thriving environment for our community, and visitors.
