**The Cyclone Team**
The Cyclone Team is a multi-disciplinary engineering group within Roundel, arenaflex's Digital Media Marketing. We are a core data platform team focused on the curation and development of data assets used by the Marketing teams at arenaflex. The Engineers in this group are critical in the delivery and reporting of targeted marketing campaigns to arenaflex's customers across various channels, including web, email, and social media.
**Job Summary**
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will act as an expert in the engineering group that supports the product. You will help create and acquire knowledge in the application design, distill theoretical engineering into practical plans, and impact execution. You will demonstrate expertise in applying suitable programming languages to build robust and flexible systems. You will be a specialist in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You will have the ability to design and execute the design alone, but choose to impact your fellow engineers by proposing programming plans, providing feedback on programming plans and execution. You will demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills and help the team in triaging functional issues. You will leverage your mastery in eliminating repeat events.
**Key Responsibilities**
As an Engineer, you will start to lead the pack as you:
* Utilize your innovation acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specific areas of the technology space.
* Assess new technologies and participate in navigation, considering factors such as feasibility within arenaflex's technical climate, practicality, and cost of ownership.
* Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept exercises for new technologies.
* Act as a subject matter expert in complex and unstructured situations to create and improve principles and best practices to ensure superior execution, adaptable, repeatable, and secure expectations.
* Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership.
* Lead and direct code review, design review, testing, and troubleshooting exercises at the application level. Lead functional design and engineering conversations with an understanding of process streams and system graphs to enable design decisions.
* Participate in daily and non-routine development, automation, and execution exercises, ensuring effective execution with design and functional requirements and best practices met.
* Provide technical oversight and mentor others to resolve complex and extreme technical issues.
* Lead disaster recovery exercises and contribute to disaster recovery planning.
* Implement data quality standards throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and functional use.

**About You**
* 4-year degree or equivalent experience
* 5+ years of experience in application and data pipeline development
* 5+ years of experience working with large volumes and variety of data in a production environment
* 5+ years of experience working with Big Data technologies, such as Hadoop, Apache Flume, Flume Streaming, Oozie, and Hive
* Capability in at least one of the following languages: Scala, Python, Java
* Capability in at least one of the following monitoring tools: Kibana, Grafana
* Skill in delivering elite execution, flexible, repeatable, and secure expectations with broad impact (high throughput and low latency)
* Fitness in influencing and applying high data standards, strategies, and techniques
* Experience writing and organizing code using multiple scripts, including distributed programming along with grasping various systems and standards
* Software engineering basic knowledge including ability to work with design patterns, data patterns, and algorithms
* Solid verbal and written communication skills
* Solid analytical and investigative skills of the impact of own work in the team as well as partners
**Wanted Capabilities**
* Experience in execution tuning data pipelines and data stages
* Experience in automated testing and other testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit)
* Experience coordinating with REST APIs and cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services)
* Familiarity with streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka)
* Openness to containerization (e.g., Docker)
* Openness to DevOps tools, processes, and culture (e.g., Drone, Jenkins, Git)
* Experience working with a source control tool (e.g., Git)
* Openness to Spry ideas and systems
