- About Us:
We are Identity Furniture, an established commercial furniture company based in Australia. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, beautifully designed, and structurally sound furniture. We are currently experiencing growth and are looking for a highly capable freelancer to help fill the gaps in our current design workflow.
- The Role:
We are seeking a Part-Time / Semi Full-Time Furniture Designer with exceptional SolidWorks skills.
This isn't just a standard drafting role. For the right candidate, this position has the genuine potential to evolve into a Design Lead role within our company. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between our design concepts and our manufacturing reality.
- Key Responsibilities:
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and technical production drawings using SolidWorks.
Apply strict Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to all designs.
Optimise designs based on specific machining limitations, material yields, and shop-floor capabilities.
Collaborate with our team to troubleshoot design flaws before they hit the manufacturing floor.
Eventually, take the reins to lead and streamline our internal design space and processes.
- Required Skills & Experience:
Proven Furniture Background: You must have a strong portfolio demonstrating a proven track record specifically in furniture design.
- Manufacturing Expertise: We do not just want pretty renders. You must come from a manufacturing background and deeply understand how things are actually built.
SolidWorks Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks is mandatory.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of CNC machining limitations, joinery techniques, material tolerances (timber, metal, upholstery), and assembly processes.
- Leadership Qualities: Proactive communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
- Why Work With Us?
Long-term potential: This is an ongoing relationship with the runway to step into a leadership position.
Flexible hours: Part-time to semi full-time availability, allowing you to manage your schedule.
Real impact: Your expertise will directly shape how our products are manufactured and brought to market.
- How to Apply:
Please submit your proposal with the following:

With this, please attach here previous or current work examples that you think align with our type of work. **We dont consider kitchen cabinets and flatpack work to be furniture - thanks anyway** **Further note, please only apply if your experience matches something similar to our current product library - Structural steel and electrical engineering experts need not apply - Thanks**
