[Remote] Software Development Engineer, AI

They are seeking an Early Career Software Development Engineer, AI to assist in designing and implementing AI applications that enhance civic technology products. Responsibilities - Assist in the design implementation of human-in-the-loop AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques - Build your skills with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWS - Rapidly learn new domains and apply AI and machine learning methods to enhance campaign and civic technology products - Conduct structured experimentation to diagnose problems, validate solutions, and communicate findings effectively - Evaluate emerging AI frameworks and tools (including MCP and agentic systems) for integration into production environments - Initially reports to the CTO Skills - 1-3 years of experience in software development - Strong technical training in computer science or engineering - Demonstrated passion for LLM integration in web, mobile, and backend systems - Experience with prompt engineering, RAG workflows, and agentic AI systems - Practical experience as an intern or junior engineer using scrum and github - Experience with cloud infrastructure - Commitment to responsible and ethical AI development, with awareness of model limitations, bias, and performance considerations - Effective collaboration skills to work cross-functionally - Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences - Portfolio of projects to showcase experience - You've built or scaled AI functions in prior roles - You've spent time as a full stack developer in a prior role with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWS - You've demonstrated domain expertise by achievement of a relevant secondary degree - You have prior experience as a contributor to an open-source project - You've studied, worked, or volunteered in politics, civics, or democracy reform - You're tired of sitting on the sidelines while democracy fails to meet its potential – and you're ready to act Benefits - 100% coverage of health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your dependents. - Unlimited PTO (sick and vacation) policy. - 401(k) program available so you can contribute toward retirement savings (no employer match). - Individual learning & development budget to fund your growth. - $50/month to help with your internet and other expenses.
