Editor & Ghostwriter – Middle Grade Fantasy Novel (50,000 Words) We are seeking an experienced Editor & Ghostwriter to refine, strengthen, and contribute to the final draft of a completed 50,000-word middle grade fantasy novel. The manuscript is fully drafted and requires some developmental editing, line editing, and selective ghostwriting to elevate pacing, voice consistency, character development, and overall narrative cohesion. This is a collaborative role requiring creativity, strong editorial judgment, and a deep understanding of the middle grade fantasy market. Key Responsibilities: Developmental Editing: Evaluate and enhance plot structure, pacing, and narrative arc Strengthen character development and emotional depth Ensure world-building is immersive, clear, and age-appropriate Identify and resolve inconsistencies, plot holes, and structural weaknesses Line Editing Improve sentence flow, clarity, and tone Maintain consistent voice and style throughout Enhance dialogue authenticity and readability Adjust language to align with middle grade readership (ages 8–12) Ghostwriting Contributions Rewrite selected scenes for impact and clarity Expand underdeveloped sections where necessary Refine key emotional beats and action sequences Collaborate closely with the author to preserve creative vision Qualifications: Proven experience editing and/or ghostwriting middle grade fiction Strong understanding of current middle grade fantasy trends and market expectations Ability to maintain an established author voice while elevating quality Excellent storytelling instincts and structural awareness Strong communication and collaboration skills Experience preparing manuscripts for submission or publication preferred Deliverables Fully edited and revised manuscript (approx. 50,000 words) Track changes version and clean final draft Editorial summary outlining major revisions and recommendations Ideal Candidate You are passionate about middle grade fantasy, understand the emotional and imaginative world of young readers, and can seamlessly blend editorial precision with creative contribution.
